I feel like Seething Song being banned means this would be, too.

Seething Song is banned in Modern, not Standard. I have no idea what that means, though... if they don't plan to revisit the card ever is beyond me. I know they stopped printing Seething Song, though, in... 9th edition? Wow... I guess it's only ever been reprinted once. It's just everybody's go-to.

My original version was {1}{r} for {r}{r}{r} and common

So Pyretic Ritual? That's printable, but just dull. Also strictly worse than Desperate Ritual.

maybe {r}{r} add {r}{r}{r}. Draw a card ??

Heeee. Exciting. A bit better than Manamorphose, but plausible anyway if it's making {r}{r}{r} and probably at sorcery speed.

Erm! 4 + a card is a leetle bit more than you said! Did you mean 3, or 4?

oops added draw a card but forgot to take off one {r}.

Huh. I like the card, but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't play 4x of this card in mono-red. In fact, if you allowed me to, I'd put 20x of this card in my deck. Roughly, this card reads:

Cast Mishra's Bauble, except you don't look at a random card, but instead add one mana to your pool. Also, draw the card right now instead of the beginning of the next upkeep. You can't cast this spell on round one.

Seems much, much better than Lotus Petal. You don't get a color of your choice... but who wouldn't play a Lotus Petal that added colorless and drew you card when played?

If I made the cost {2}{r} then it would be a filter for when you are stuck without enough red - {2}{r} to {r}{r}{r} and you get to draw a card - not mana acceleration anymore but it might be more balanced.

Since this is now fulfilling the Manamorphose role, I'd guess it can be instant.

I don't think the {r}{r}->{r}{r}{r} version was broken though. As you say, there's a 4-card limit, and it's only monored decks that'd like it, and it has the classic free-cantrip problem like Street Wraith that it reduces your knowledge of your hand when mulliganing.

Yeah, but it's still really really good; manamorphose was just colour filtering.

This is "Play an even better fast aggro creatuure on turn 2, and don't even have to give up a card for it and make my deck more reliable because this isn't really taking up a card slot and it sorta means I don't need as much land and..."

Possibly fair? But really really good, in a "If there was a red ritual, and this, I'd have a hard time choosing between them (and would want both)" way.

It saddens me too, Alex. But let's be honest. That card would be banned in a year.

That said, if the card said "discard a card, then draw a card" I don't think there would be any real problem with it.

Like this? which brings it back to closer to what I wanted originally.

I'll point out that all of Vitenka's points except the 3-drop-on-round-2 still apply to Manamorphose, Street Wraith, Conjurer's Bauble etc, and those don't get played very much.

The cantrip {r}{r}->{r}{r}{r} would only get banned in formats with Storm cards. And I think the problem there is the Storm cards not the rituals.

This current version is fun. Though I wonder whether it might confuse people as to its role: is it meant to be Wild Guess or Pyretic Ritual?

It's kinda both now. I can see that; sometimes you want one, sometimes you want the other - rarely do you want both, and it's wonderful - countered by occasionally you really want the mana but really don't want to ditch any other of your cards.

It's still gonna be a staple. (And the bauble and wraith have a mana or life-cost downside. Manamorphose I'm surprised at though - I'd have put that in the "Run four without thinking, so that you can build a 56 card deck" category.)
