You know what this set needs? Dragons. Lots and lots of blue dragons.

And prot-land just seems perfect for a land set, so this one it is.

Horizon Drake reprint, obviously.

What the? That card exists? I was about to say that it's weird for a flying creature to have protection from lands... but okay. Maybe they wanted something that could block the blue enchant land in set...

It flies over Deserts, avoids getting lost in the Maze of Ith... but yeah, limited applicability. It's a pretty good aggro flier for blue, even without, mind you.

If any creature should have prot land, it's a flying one, surely?

Oh. Argle fnargle. It was for Inkmoth Nexus (and now Blinkmoth Nexus). Well, anything that kills those off is a good thing.

Forsythe: Hey, MaRo! we were thinking that in the block after the one you're working on, we would like to make a two card all land combo with an insanely easy to activate and deadly creature-land. Can you make some sort of pro. land creature with flying in the block before it?
MaRo: Sure thing!

'zactly!

About six years ago, in the keyword reshuffle, blue was meant to get protection from things other than colours. Horizon Drake is the only time it's happened. MaRo elaborates a little here.
