Flavor text suggestions needed.

Huh. That's rather well balanced, congrats. It might not, however, be a common. I think many good players would activate this card 5-6 times in a draft without blushing. I don't know if you'd want that to be a regular occurance (with the occasional 'activate this 14 times in a match' being a legitimate reality). I'd put it at uncommon, personally.

'shrugs' Thought Courier was a common in Fifth Dawn; that was enough justification for me. If blue needs space I'll bump it to uncommon later. Thanks for the advice, though.

Edit: Thinking about it more, I think I'll try and increase the amount of "looting" both red and blue get in this set. Hopefully, that means salvage activations become easier.

Add flavour text.

You recently edited this card, so I noticed you responded to my post from a while ago, but I never got the message. So, in case you're wondering, that's why I'm responding like some sort of ghost from the future. oooOOOOooohhh....

First of all, thank you for saying 'thank you, but I'll pass'. It's nice to know that, even if my thoughts don't match yours, that my opinion was evaluated. That being said, I think you may have misunderstood my point when comparing this to Thought Courier. That would infer that I thought that this card was too complicated for common, which, no... actually, I think this card is right on target for complexity at common. My argument for uncommon for a card like this boiled down to two reasons:

  • Approximately half the players who play Magic will actively dislike this card. The demographic known as 'Timmy' (sorry... I know that's awkward. Shall we just come up with a different name for this demographic? Let's call him Buster). Buster dislikes Merfolk Looter because he has to discard cards, and discarding cards is a drawback. No, really, I know it sounds silly, but he does. Buster doesn't exactly work on a rational level. This card tacks a life loss onto a card that Buster already wasn't happy about. I would think that that would make Buster super frustrated. Cards that make one demographic unhappy often don't leak into common... though it does happen.
  • This card is a real skill tester. Every turn you need to evaluate whether you should pay one life or not. I like that sort of continuous inherent decision making, but, I would guess that most people do not. If this card was common, that sort of regular decision making would become a regular part of any draft environment this guy was in... and I know a lot of people who just wouldn't enjoy that sort of draft environment.

For those two reasons, if it were up to me, I would choose to bump the card up to uncommon. You're more than welcome to disagree with me, though. Don't take this response as me trolling or anything... I just wasn't sure if my original point came across correctly.

  • Thanks for your feedback. After taking everything into consideration, I agree that this should be uncommon.

    Now uncommon.
