Isn't it counterproductive to go for U+R?
Often, yes. But the red ability works very well with the rest of the 10 card cycle, so I think one card with a not-as-useful result is fine. I would like to point out, however, that if you and your opponent have a locked ground game and your opponent controls a Wind Drake, that the U+R ability will win you the game.
So would U+B (whether they chump or not, you just keep pulling out of reach).
I agree it'd be situational; but it's often going to be very nearly a targeted "Not only must you block this, but that thing there is what you must do it with"
I like it.
3/3 flying lifelink for 3 mana does seem very strong, but I guess it's only comparable to Vampire Nighthawk...
I'll have to remember that this one, and WUB probably have the best combination. I wouldn't want to Jund those colors.
