Maybe this could be more like Osai Vultures? Get counters and redeem them for p/t later? That way the death triggers from one combatphase could make for larger vultures the next combat.

Followed SecretInfiltrator's suggestion and modeled after Osai Vultures instead of "Whenever a creature dies, up to one target creature with flying gets +1/+1 until end of turn"
