It is more niche, yea. But I wasn't thinking of having regular cycling in the set so I tinkered in this direction.

Perhaps I could add "or discard a card" to round it out? Red also might get a self-discard theme so that'd overlap with that as well. And if I use Grandeur, it would work with that too.

A shame it can't easily be "Whenever you add a land to your hand"

This version seems better but it still is a little oddly narrow given the existence of plain "whenever you cycle or discard a card". I would use that if I had regular cycling in the set, but I'm not sure.

This card is literally functionally identical to a card that says "whenever you cycle or discard a card" since both wordings are functionally identical to "whenever you discard a card". (Unless the weird wording you use implies you want this to trigger twice on landcycling, but that wouldn't be consistent with how you expanded the ability.)

The cards that mention cycling separately just use redundant rules text to emphasize that cycling involves discarding a card.

If you are willing to broaden this ability into discard, then there is no reason to not make it (backwards-)compatible with other forms of cycling.

There is no shame in using an established wording if it is a good wording.

I get what you're saying. And it is a good wording. I think my hesitation is simply putting in a bunch of cards that reference "cycling" if I'm not going to include regular cycling, even if it still works. But I've switched over all such cards to "whenever you cycle or discard a card" atm.
