There should probably be an expensive card draw ability to come with this. It's kind of weak at the moment.

Does this set take advantage of the discard in the mana ability? I really don't see what makes this a common.

Discard just seemed more common than reveal. Straight-up, I'm bad at designing artifacts so I was just guessing at what could be common artifact design.
