Alex: Huh. If I edit my comment, I see all of it, but the display doesn't show the first paragraph. There's the same problem with this comment if I put a newline in here. Text was: "Vitenka: You know wizards printed lightning bolt in Magic 2010 and 2011 right? I was totally surprised, but the official line is that it's very strong, and they intend shock to be the baseline, but are now happy for lightning bolt to be in standard some of the time, as long as it isn't in standard ALL of the time. I think the secondary market value is like £1? Which is very high for a common, but it is really good."
Thank you
Thanks. Yeah. Maybe.
ROFL. Yes!
Yeah, there's no escaping the fact that common or base set fatties tend to be vanilla X/X for X or more, but rare and mythic large creatures tend to be bigger and have massive upsides too. I can replace some more 1 with G if it helps, but I deliberately said that in the race of having huge creatures, simple green monsters were left behind, and I felt green deserved some that were just BIGGER instead of complicated.
True, but that's still inconvenient: it doesn't help if it happens during combat but they wanted to play creatures after, for instance.
:) That's the flavour, but I avoided referencing real intellectual property completely directly :)
Maybe, but I think that would be more fiddly as you have to keep stopping to pick up the cards and look and think then rather than planning ahead. I think repeatable scry 2 would be too fiddly (this may be, but I hope not)
shrug Maybe. Free tap abilities in blue that draw/filter need to be watched. But untap effects should always cost something, right?
True, it doesn't help much. I switched it in instead of a repeatable ability. But then, 3/2 for 4 CMC is not bad to start with. I could easily make it two (or all): it would let you attack with more impunity but only once, which feels like a fine if small upside.
Yeah. There's obviously better cards for constructed, but in limited blue should be grateful to get a 3/3 flyer AT ALL. It normally gets a 3/2 or several 2/2 or similar. But sometimes a 5-mana 3/3 with random upside to try to make it relevant for something. If you're looking for an aggressive deck, 3/2 3U or 2/2 2U is better, but in limited sometimes you want 3/3 and waiting an extra turn isn't the end of the world.
I wanted a 3/3 so I picked a small benefit that would rarely be relevant, but might be sometimes.
In fact, I'm embarrassed that this card was printed years ago with 2U untap. There just isn't that much design space. But I think it's fine.
Hm, I felt 1W +2/+2 upside was probably too nice although G, W and G get it sometimes (auras always seem to be more expensive than I expect) although, given it's an aura, I don't think it's overpowered. I should maybe move this to uncommon and find a simpler aura that fits the flavour.
Oh, you're right, it's incredibly close. Oh, well.
Or with pacifism. Or, for that matter, one of the ridiculous white one-mana "exile target creature, situational disadvantage" spells. I assumed W, and then W ought-to-twice per turn was about equivalent to 1W upfront. And it's one-mana situational removal that isn't overpowered.
Hm, yeah. I think I'm bad at costing these common white mass pump effects because I rarely play a deck with enough white weenies to make them really good, so they always seem overcosted. I imagine gleam gets the extra cost from mass untap, but not really sure.
I debated allowing to bounce opponent's creatures, but decided it was too complicated. (And it's not really white.)
Yeah, that's because it's white. White sometimes gets grizzy bears but often gets 1W or WW 2/2 or 2/3 weenies with upsides even at common.
Comparable to Gleam of Resistance. Knocking off the cost for the removal of basic landcycling is probably fair.
It says "target creature you control"...
No, would be fine I think. Compare with Gelid Shackles.
Hm, true, although I like the variant. I may make a basic "while equipped" version here and a more interesting uncommon that has an "on equip"
Good point, this could be .
Name is sadly taken by Unstable Shapeshifter. This plays more like Shapesharer.
Blue can't get a 3/1 for 3 mana!
But Phantom Monster doesn't happen at common these days. It barely happens at uncommon.
Thank you.
It's quite a lot better than orcish spy...
