Thank you, Alex. Flagged to edit.
Missing a full stop (period) in the flavour text.
I can't remember what I was thinking, exactly, when I bumped this into uncommon. But I'm pretty sure it was a combination of 'make Homelands more aggressive' and 'large walls with no power shouldn't be a common sight in black. Especially ones with protection from black.' I guess I could have increased power or switched out for pro white... but there's a lot of flavor on this card that demands it to be what it is.
Since it's an uncommon, the toughness got bumped. I'm not a fan of obsoleting Wall of Ice/Glacial Wall... especially since I can't think of another card that has. But cards like Wall of Frost tend to make me believe that a 0/7 with a minor bonus ability is fine at
in uncommon.
Okay, I admit it. I'd like to own a Stellar Carapace, too. But I don't know where I'd put the thing.
Mmm, totem toughness. Good rounded common, if you ask me.
Everyone needs a Stellar Carapace!
Note that this card was the inspiration for Nemesis Trap, which further suggests uncommon could be fine.
I think I'd disagree on shade; I'd expect that to have a
:+1/+1 ability
Fair on both points. Unfortunately, this set may be starved for rares by the time I'm done. There's plenty of weird cards from this time, but not many sweeping powerhouses. I'll keep my eyes open for black uncommons, though, that can swap with this card. Or general swapping around from other colors. Joven and Chandler are bound to knock a few things over in their rush to join rare from their current status as commons.
The Masters Edition version is uncommon and I'd say Turn the Tables could be as well. Black definitely can get an expensive, obvious two-for-one removal spell at uncommon. Don't make it a Shade, though; Shades always need a pump ability.
That's it. Another pass... though, this one is a little borderline. I could have made this +0/+3... I just didn't think it needed it. That, and I'm trying to make Homelands more aggressive. I don't need a stellar Carapace.
If you're editing it anyway, then creature types in card text need to be capitalised: "dealt damage by a Vampire"... "on that Vampire"... "regenerate target Vampire".
Anyway, your changes make a lot of sense.
Commented there; suggest for this particular instance: Keep the flavour; make it a werewolf. (Without silly innistrad mechanics, a normal ability cost to flip)
One side gets something like banding-on-block (Sacrifice to prevent target creature dealing damage - flavour the human throwing himself in the way; just like bands-on-block; you can multi block then to kill it, safely)
T'other side gets exalted, or "When ~ attacks, attacking creatures get +1/+1" or "~ must be blocked" or something to be like the other half of banding.
I'm moving this over to Banding in the Restored Series over in Conversation, since this seems like a bigger question than just this one card.
I thought about changing the creature type. But in the end, I figured 'Horse' was better than 'Horse Spirit' or 'Horse Horror', or anything else I could come up with. Odd creature.
Anyhow, I probably could have made this a little bigger. But I was looking on Gatherer, and a lot of people were talking about how this card can be used as an engine for untap effects. Nobody else mentioned it, but this card is simply begging for you to enchant it with Elemental Mastery. Infinite hasty elementals? Don't mind if I do!
UncleIstvan got in his comment before I did. It's a decent point, but it doesn't really supply an answer. What should I do instead?
I almost cried when I looked at Beast Walkers. There are so many things going wrong with the card, it was hard to find a path through.
I'm still not done. I'm not sure which knobs are important to keep on this card, and which need to be dialed back. But I felt much better when I realized that this card should be a Green creature with a white activation, and not the other way around. That was a big stumbling block here.
So... now banding. I'm still not sure what to do about that. There's been a lot of design out there that's tried to replicate the feel of banding, but nothing's been close, really. That's because banding has so many moving parts, it refuses to be clearly understood. It's also a really awesome mechanic, once you get to know it, though. What a pain. My opinion of how to deal with banding is still evolving, but for right now, it stays on the card, gigantic wall of reminder text and all.
On rarity: Easily could be uncommon.
On power and toughness vs. casting cost: I chose this combination back when I still thought of this as a white card. I switched over to green, and didn't think to reconsider the cc vs. p/t. It probably should be a 3/3 for

or
though. I plan to change that when I change one of the other thingies.
I think in order to "fix" Homelands, I would just remove banding entirely.
Unnecessary line break in flavor. Need to edit.
Some of those changes are obvious, and some less so. There are two key points here:
1) You're supposed to swing with 7/7 flying Mythic Rares, not hold them back in case you need to regenerate Irini Sengir. The mana activation for Baron let's you do that, and gives you a chance to regenerate an extra Vampire flying in with the Baron while you're at it. An accidental side effect is that the Baron can regenerate himself twice when you're at 8 mana, but I can live with that.
2) Mythics should either be efficient in the early game (rarely), hard to get rid of (like Autumn Willow), or do something useful, even if your opponent has a ready removal spell on their turn. That's one of the reasons I let the Super Sengir Vampire ability apply to all your vampires, instead of just the Baron. If you have a vampire deck, and you drop the Baron and swing with your team, your opponent has a problem. Chumping Vampire Nighthawk could be a terrible idea.
