this is the sort of guy you can have just sitting on the battlefield and gloating at the enemy instead of actually battling. he doesn't need to be big
may need to up cost a little?
I don't want two 3/5 at the exact same mana cost!
I went for a shade-like approach instead, which I like almost as much.
I like the trick of using this on himself to punish the opponent for making a 2/2. But I don't like that he's then tapped and unable to block their existing 4/4. Might it be possible to remove the tap cost, perhaps going up to 4 mana on the activation instead?
This is convenient since I've precisely been wanting a spell with that exact Encore bonus
move encore to (((Banish into the SUn)))
That's a sensible complain. Since this is a multicolor set where the goal is to AVOID pushing toward 3+color decks, I want the multicolor cards to be significantly impactful. Luckily, it is fairly easy to move the encore ability over to Banish into the Sun.
Feels a little expensive. It's downright terrible if you're forced to cast it without Encore, and by the time you're able to do that (let's say around 7 mana on turn 7) the two 2/2s won't be super impactful.
If this card is intentionally bad, I don't know if that's the best direction to head with a multicolor card that already carries a deckbuilding and drafting cost. Then again, playing multicolor cards is generally easier in a multicolor set, so I could be wrong.
That only applies to big spells (i.e. small combat tricks can be countered efficiently for the same amount or less mana) cast during main phase 1 or your own combat. That's a pretty limited set of spells.
This feels extremely powerful. If they tap out to cast a spell and you counter it with this, they probably won't be able to cast another spell in the same turn using just colorless mana - making it a strictly better Counterspell in a lot of situations.
too flavor-fitting to ignore. Would like to lower it to rare though.
