Story:

Long ago, the struggle between the planeswalker, Taysir and a sorceress resulted in the Great Thousandfold Refraction of Rabiah. This event split the plane into 1001 different versions of itself, each slightly different than the last, and surrounded all of them with a barrier, so no planeswalkers could ever travel to them. However, one woman, unbeknownst to her, holds the key to undoing the damage done all those years ago.

Her name was Scharafade, the princess of the Great City of Brass. She was born as the next in a long line of royalty stretching back centuries. At a young age, she lost her mother who gave her a journal and told her that it will be very important someday. When she became of age to marry, she was to be married to a Sultan known for his cruelty and avarice. This sorrow caused her planeswalker spark to ignite, flinging her to a distant world. She took this as a sign to record all that she encountered in her travels, as she had already used the book as a personal journal for much of her early life. So, she traveled across the Multiverse, exploring plane after plane, some strikingly similar to her homeland, recording stories, myths, and legends from various people. However, once the book was reaching its final blank pages, her home called to her, and she returned.

Meanwhile, back in her homeland, a young mariner was writing his own story. His name was Sabahad, the Seaborn, known far and wide for his exploits as an explorer, merchant, sailor, and more. However, his most recent assignment has him aboard a ship headed toward an ancient ruin in search of treasure for an un-named client. Little does he know that there is more in that ruin than mere gold, and that its discovery will change the world.

Characters:

Sabahad, the Seaborn (Sinbad + Bahar or “Sailor”) – A mariner of great renown, Sabahad has sailed the seas and journeyed far and wide working a wide array of different occupations (Pirate, Privateer, Merchant, etc.). After being hired on an expedition to a ruin with ancient treasure, he will soon embark on a quest that will affect him for the rest of his life.

Scharafade, the Fabler (Scheherzarade + Kharafa or “Fable”) – A planeswalker that was originally from this plane. Born into nobility, she was to be married to a Sultan known for his avarice and cruelty. This revelation and the sorrow that accompanied it caused her planeswalker spark to ignite. After being flung to the plane of Amonkhet after the events of Hour of Devastation, she traveled the multiverse, collecting the stories of various worlds that she records in a magical journal that she carries with her, of which the story of her early life and forced marriage is the first. It is said that something miraculous would happen when the last page of the book is filled and it is returned to its original resting place.

Mechanics, Tribes, etc.:

Adventure

Deserts

Pirate Tribal: Raid (With an emphasis on stealing nonland permanents)

Djinn Tribal: Wish - See Mechanics section for details

New Mechanic: Caravan - See the Mechanics section for details

Color Pie Split:

Grixis Pirates – Much like Ixalan, there are pirates that sail the high seas of Rabiah. However, unlike the Brazen Coalition, there are no alliances here. Pirates may form small crews, but it’s mostly every man for himself. Mechanically, this tribe will revolve around an aggro based style of play and stealing permanents, often at the cost of life. (Prominent Creature Types: Kenra, Humans, Leonin)

Esper Djinn – The Rabiahs are unique among the planes in the Multiverse for having a more abundant population of Djinn. Though they are often beholden to whoever decides to rub their lamp, they are tricksters, often making their masters regret that decision. Though they are predominantly in the UWB section of the color pie, R and G Djinn are not unheard of. Mechanically, they will emphasize a tempo/control based style of play and revolve around spells, drawing cards or scrying.

Bant Caravan – The colors UWG will take advantage of the new Caravan mechanic. This draft archetype will incentivize going wide with a bunch of creatures. (Prominent Creature Types: Humans, Camels, Elephants, Leonin)

Naya Adventure – The Deserts and seas of Rabiah are rife for exploration. Not to mention, the plane itself has quite the storied past and has been host to many a brave hero. This draft archetype will be value centric, using the Adventure mechanic to play spells stapled onto powerful creatures or vice versa. (Prominent Creature Types: Khenra, Humans, Camels, Elephants)

Jund Deserts – Of course the wilds of Rabiah are anything but hospitable. Deserts are found all over the place, and oases are hard to come by. This draft archetype will be heavily focused on gaining value from playing deserts with a burn subtheme. This set will also feature Desert Basic Lands. These will be basic lands with the Desert Type (ala. Snow-Covered Lands). (Prominent Creature Types: Leonin, Khenra, Djinn)
