The only thing that changes is whether you get a token when you target Darksteel Citadel
Since the land is the only target of the spell, sacrificing the land will fizzle the spell whether it includes "if you do"/"when you do" or not.
Mmmaybe? "If you do" can matter sometimes.
In this case though, probably not. I mean, the case where you don't have a target, you've already won. I guess it could provoke an opponent into sacrfiicing a land to stop you getting the treasure, but this doesn't seem major enough to bother with.
This shouldn't have a triggered ability. Just "Destroy target land. Create a ..."
Altered wording to remove "to your mana pool" from the card as obsolete by Dominaria rule changes.
Join Forces Commune with Lava. Costs R in an attempt to match the M sorcery cards the other colours got.
This was originally a Join Forces Clash of Wills, and predated the Join Forces mechanic. After that mechanic was released I eventually changed it to the closer Join Forces mechanic. It was never designed as a Out of Bounds variant, since it's a supposed to be a Clash of Wills with upside.
X is not NWO for beginner reasons, and those are ignored because of the cube's premise. Discounting player unfamiliarity with X and Assist, this card is mechanically fine as a common under NWO, for the same reason Cancel is. It doesn't make the board more complex, doesn't create card advantage, and can be ignored after resolving.
I tried a new variant on the Assist remained text I thought it would be clearer and less ambitious, and since it wasn't I have changed this to matched to the remainder text of the other Assist cards.
Altered this card's remainder text to match other Assist cards.
Raised cmc from 1 to 2. Removed "to your mana pool" to match Dominaria rules changes.
Changed from "If a creature is" to "A creature that is" to hopefully make the intended effect work
On power level:
Blue already has Reality Shift in real magic, and also gets the ability to transform creatures into 3/3's for one mana and at three makes things weaker than a bear. Blue also gets two mana blink effects that let you turn morphs face up (replacing the potential morph triggers with ETB triggers). And both of these types of cards are already costed as 1U Instants.
The card is a little pushed at two mana, but blue already gets comparable effects at instant speed for the same cost. I would cost the individual halves of this card as 1U Instants, and view changing the speed to sorcery as a reasonable payment for the modality/entwine, since you're losing the ability to use this card as a combat trick/instant speed removal, which is usually going to be far more valuable than the utility to unmorph your own stuff.
Replying to SecretInfiltrator:
Slivers do not have named keyword or ability word mechanic that refers only to them. Allies have both Rally and Cohort, which means I have to put them in and they compete with Slivers for design space. So I chose not to include Slivers.
Not certain if SecretInfiltrator got trolled, or is making a valid point. 🤔
Neat trick, though. Fine in a custom cube, and I really like how this card can reset and retrigger a card like Icefeather Aven. But it's true that this is way too good for real magic. Oh, heck. You don't even have to turn a creature with morph face down. This just makes any creature a vanilla 2/2 for
. That by itself would be a decent card... never mind flipping a card like Krosan Cloudscraper face up to go for a walk.
But again... just for this cube, presuming no insane morph creatures? Seems well above average, but doable.
Also, on a side note, it feels kind of dirty to turn morph creatures face up at sorcery speed. But maybe that's just me.
I think nothing about Break Open comes remotely close to cheating the costs on your own morph and/or resetting an unmorph trigger.
I wonder why the reminder text changed from the original version - the new reminder text is ambiguous. It sounds like some additional cost.
Why use worse eminder text over the existing reminder text?
Weirdly no Slivers.
I hope you found a converse way to put Ally on some different tokens and make a cohort populate creature.
It's a 25th Anniversary Cube exclusive card - IIRC the set promises to use each cubable named mechanic, so +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters are both in by default since both are used by named mechanics.
That's one of those cases where the premise is sound only if you skip that particular design rule. And this combination of mechanics does not try to put both counters on the same creature range, so I think it's an acceptable design if you allow the premise at all - and the place to make this card since outside the premise you'd avoid making it.
Evolve + infect for a NPH flavor is a good combination.
Phyrexian makes about as much sense as a creature type as Ravnican or Mirran or Serran.
This automatically places +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters in the same set. It can get rather confusing if some creatures have +1/+1 counters on them and others have -1/-1 counters. WotC holds a stand of not having two type of counters (that are placed on same type of permanents) in the same block.
You don't find Out of Bounds satisfactory?
Using variable X makes this questionable at common. Whatever I guess - the set has already so many mechanics that it can't really meet any NWO standards. It's a cube after all.
I think "Hawk Umbra" is an acceptable name given the precedent so you can remove those brackets if you ask me.
