When Human Disarmer attacks, you may have it disarm target face-down permanent. If disarming succeeds, the permanent’s controller sacrifices it. (To disarm, turn that face-down permanent face up. If this creature’s power is greater than or equal to that permanent’s converted mana cost, disarming succeeds.)

Though, to be honest, I didn't misinterpret the mechanic when I first read it. I got it when I read it, then reflected on what the word 'Vangaurd' meant. I wonder if it's more difficult for people who don't happen to know that word?
Ah, the "must" seemed to make it mandatory to block these.
not quite. defender doesn't have to block. but if he does, vanguard creatures must be blocked before other attackers.
Okay, so is vanguard any different to:
Lure (This creature must be blocked if able.)?
