On SCIENCE Discussion (reply):

Tinker is a good mechanic and it tested well during the first run at these decks.

  • Tinker (When this permanent enters, you may sacrifice an artifact.)

This makes the Science deck a straightforward artifact deck and distinguishes it from spell-themed Izzet. It leans heavily into engineering creative.

I do not shy away from brainstorming alternative mechanical space. I think about what a card with the subtype Discovery or Thesis might do/be.

On FAITH Discussion (reply):

First Question: What should be the new central mechanic of the Faith deck?

  • While the mechanical direction of the deck might be salvageable (go-wide + life gain), the actual keyword ability/action that was tested is bad
  • OLD VERSION: pray (You gain 1 life for each creature you control.)

I'm mentally working on a version of investigate/amass/the Ring tempts you to replace the pray effect. More as ideas become more concrete.

It should be noted that the Faith deck was mechanically diverse and had a mechanic called literally Faith which now after TDM would be written as "behold an Angel".

I consider "behold X" as an option for a shared mechanic between the decks, and independently I think the phrase "behold a Miracle" is fun and I want to use it on a card - not necessarily in this product. :)

Legendary Creature – Human Artificer
Tinker (When this permanent enters, you may sacrifice an artifact.)
Whenever you sacrifice an artifact, mill a card. If it is an artifact card, put it onto the battlefield rather than into your graveyard.

Legendary Creature – Elf Cleric
Whenever another nontoken creature you control enters, pray. (To pray, create a Faith enchantment token with the same colors. It has "{2}, Sacrifice two Faith: You gain 5 life.")
Whenever you pray, draw a card.

Enchantment
Whenever one or more creatures attack you or a planeswalker you control, this enchantment deals X damage to target attacking creature, where X is the number of creatures you control.

Artifact Creature – Golem
This creature enters a +1/+1 counter on it for each artifact card in your graveyard.
When this creature dies, you may put a +1/+1 counter on target artifact creature for each +1/+1 counter on this creature.

Creature – Bird
Flying
This creature can't attack unless you have three or more artifact cards in your graveyard.

On Massey, Engine Manager:

Heavily inspired by Massey, Engine Manager.

It tinkers. Face-card for the tinker deck.

Might be massively undercost. :)

On Archbishop Mercellus:

This could benefit from some "Triggers only once each turn."-treatment.

Full on pray-themed legendary as the face of the deck.

On Stand as One:

COPY of Stand as One.

An enchantment is a cool thing to have. Go-wide pay-off. Probably too much of a board stall card.

On Spare Golem:

COPY of Spare Golem.

Tinker fills the graveyard with artifacts. Plus modular.

On Scrapyard Flock:

Life gain pay-off. Less parasitic than "When you pray".

On Obsession:

See Compulsion.

Tinker inherently is an A/B mechanic. You need the artifacts and you need the cards to convert them into effects. This card provides crucial card selection.

On Survey the Blueprints:

Perfect to refuel after a lot of tinkering.
