Ha. The Card Comparisons thread points out one more argument for this being viable: Emblazoned Golem. Yes, in a monocolour deck, Emblazoned Golem works like Copper. If you can produce two or more colours of mana, it's pretty close to strictly better than Copper. It's only in a sufficiently colourless deck that having no coloured mana by turn 3 is a significant risk where you'd ever prefer Copper. Unless you cared about the creature type Policeman or the awesome pun in this version, of course :P
And yes, seems fair. Obviously you're right to be cautious of printing common artifact creatures which push the stats in even a really mild way, but also, this reasonable for any color. In Innistrad One-Eyed Scarecrow suggests it's pretty much on the mark.
This has never existed as a vanilla artifact creature before, but I think it's fair. White and green get better than these stats regularly (Kor Sanctifiers, Kabira Evangel, Nessian Courser, Trophy Hunter), and blue's done it once with Selhoff Occultist; and blue and red have got this vanilla before (Blind Phantasm, Jwari Scuttler, Minotaur Warrior and now Riot Devils). Red even got a better-than-vanilla in Tattermunge Duo. If you venture into double-coloured-mana-symbol territory, every colour has more:
Transcendent Master,
Descendant of Kiyomaro,
Echo Mage,
Maralen of the Mornsong,
Vampire Nighthawk,
Zombie Master,
Hurloon Minotaur,
Koth's Courier,
Elvish Warrior.
But it's never existed in artifacts before, except for Wall of Spears. So I think this is fair game.
give it a name. A punny name.

With my mind I smite at thee!
But yeah, losing first strike(2) and defender cancels out, maybe even with some small credit for you to make it do something if you want.
I can't believe you used that name. ROFL :)

THIS CARD HAS THE BEST NAME EVER
not the best art, but it'll do for now
I can't decide if it should be "copper" or "copper copper :)
