I hadn't realised until I looked how carefully the cards were designed to avoid damage being dealt by anything other than a permanent or spell.

I don't know why "choose a source" doesn't just say "any object", I don't see what harm that would do.

This can work, but only if you have a Strionic Resonator to get a copy of the triggered ability on top of the activated ability...and of course the 11 mana to pay for everything.
