Seems like a good place to put a new keyword scry variant.

And I kinda like it as a variant. Better at un-colour-screwing you; not so good for finding specific permanents later. Which is a bit of a shame for this particular card, whose primary mode is better later in the game. But it still helps against land flood then; and as long as there's some creature on the table you can use it for just he second half...

Yeah; I like this. About as clen as you can get. The mechanic is workhorse and calculating types of players will like it.

I really like this mechanic too. But I got to admit that Vitenka has a point. It's going to suck playing this card for the Excavate ability just because you want to curve out properly... but it's often going to be the correct play.

I'd suggest limiting Excavate to cards that you wouldn't normally want to hold in your hand. Permanents and sorceries that are good no matter when you cast them (like Lava Spike, with the occasional spell that might be better to wait on it, but blowing it early won't feel terrible (like Void Snare, for example.)

I hate to say it, but this mechanic is broken in a 2-land deck that wants things in the graveyard. It probably leads to a new round of Dredge bannings. You don't necessarily have to let that bother you, of course.

Even just in any set with graveyard-active cards, though, adding self-mill for 2-4 to many common staple effects will have a distorting effect.

Could the "into your graveyard" be changed to "on the bottom of your library in a random order"? That doesn't have so much of an "excavating" flavour, I'll admit.
