The goal is that a player would play it early for the bounce or they would hold onto it and research it as a win condition. If templating is an issue the big version could just mill extra cards instead of replacing the whole effect.
Why are we milling? This card seems pretty disjointed. Research adds a lot of text as is, milling research and anything else just is too much.

Changed the wording, it is less symmetrical but shorter.
If we are going to make a mill research card I believe that it needs to have another effect tied to it because a small early mill spell doesn't do much (in a set with no reason for self mill). If this templating is still too many words than I don't think we should do a research mill spell unless we can do it at rare without reminder text.
