Can we make this better and not just a reprint? Inquisitor Ox just got printed and it's the same mana for a 2/5 with an extra benefit, at common.
We are not looking for power creep. A lot of our common creatures are 2/3 and 3/3s, and this does a great job blocking them. Our average creature size is slightly smaller than usual, and looking at the commons that could kill a 5 toughness ox, we only have Stonemight, Outland Combine and Corpse Reshaper. A toughness of 4 is just enough to force your opponent to get creative, to have them windup or upgrade a creature, or use a combat trick, while still being interactive at this cost.
CF I see this card as a "placeholder" of sorts. White needs a fat bottomed common and this is a reprint that's simple (very important) and fits the setting. As we test, we'll discover if the Ox is doing what it needs to do or not, and we'll change it accordingly.
This can fill the hole on Vigilance after Unfinished Guardian loses vigilance in favor of lifelink. (As Moon-E pointed out on Salvation) If we aren't too overloaded on flying, we could potentially make it an Armored Griffin
Armoured griffin would be a good fit, but white already has 2 flying creatures and 2 creatures that create thopters, so I think we can pass on having yet another flying. I am all in favour of putting vigilance here though.
A 2/4 vigilance is always good too.
