i think the difficulty people are having creating pray enablers suggests that the mechanic needs work

I don't think that is the conclusion at all. The way to enable pray is to find ways to accelerate dudes and mana, not looking for off the wall ways to meet the threshold. This particular card just has a lot of text and doesn't particularly synergize with this decks theme or play nice with the other deck.
