i think this can be cleared up a bit
Siphon 1 (At the beginning of your upkeep, tap an untapped permanent you control or sacrifice CARDNAME.)
At the beginning of your precombat main phase, add X green mana to your mana pool where X is the number of siphoned permanents you control.
is that legit? did WOTC ever print something that referred to "detained permanents" or anything?
WOTC are moving in that direction. Septic Rats introduced the term "poisoned". They allow cards to say "Whenever Renegade Krasis evolves" or "When Sidisi's Faithful exploits a creature" or "When Nessian Wilds Ravager enters the battlefield, if tribute wasn't paid". I'm sure they'd be happy to add terminology if the card is cool enough to allow it.
