One of the proposed mechanics for the Black Knights Faction from the Goblin Artisans Black Knights design challenge.
This is Tommy Occhipinti's Revolution mechanic.
As designed, this is a bit too parasitic and lays too many demands on the set for me to want to use it. Code Geass does have a theme of secret identities, and a few characters who switch or develop from one role to another, so DFCs could work in theory... but they do lay a lot of requirements on a set.
Jay Treat said in his review:
> ...wonder if the revolution shouldn't require a mana payment, but instead a threshold of rebels owned or attacking. >
> The next question is whether the revolution needs double-faced cards. Freedom Fighter could be single-sided and have two abilities: "7: Revolt" and "When you revolt, ~'s base toughness becomes 3. Target creature can't block this turn." That's a little different because you can revolt multiple times, but I think that's worth considering.
This makes me consider a different approach. Something like
> Revolution (As long as you control three or more Rebels, ~ gets +2/+2).
Or
> Revolution (As long as you control three or more Rebels, Rebels you control get +1/+1.)
Or
> Revolution - Whenever another Rebel ETBs under your control, target creature can't block this turn.
That last one is actually Allies (cf Highland Berserker), but it's got some interesting potential nonetheless. Admittedly it's a pity that people like Tohdoh or Xing-Ke don't start off on Lelouch's side, and wouldn't really feel right with printed type Rebel, but are a tremendous asset to the Black Knights when they do come on board. I guess that's a problem that many of these proposals have, especially those that look at creature type.
