Cost based on Grafdigger's Cage
I loathe this type of card, but that's just me, I guess.
Why? Because you're an avid Whip of Erebos player?
Link just isn't a Spike, that's all. I admit, cards like this are a hard pill for me to swallow, too. Necessary in real Magic. Questionable that we need them in "Design what you want" land... but I get the desire to design for real settings as well as imagined ones.
That said, I've noticed that abilities like this tend to get attached to creatures nowadays. Probably to make them more Spike-friendly, since Spike doesn't want to waste slots in his deck purely for an answer card. Equally odd, cards like this tend to be fragile, since Spike prefers having a 2/1 over a 1/3.
Hoses a variety of things. Unearth and reanimator, certainly, but also Ninja of the Deep Hours, Green Sun's Zenith, Shadowborn Apostle, Elvish Piper, Kaalia of the Vast and even Derevi, Empyrial Tactician. Weirdly those last couple might be the one most likely to cause problems for this design, because Commander players might not like having their commanders so thoroughly hosed... though I suppose Grafdigger's Cage is an effective hoser to Sedris, the Traitor King, Dralnu, Lich Lord and Chainer, Dementia Master among others, and they still printed it.
Amusingly it makes Fiend Hunter / Banisher Priest and friends a bit better, and Astral Slide / Roon of the Hidden Realm incredibly much better.
made into a creature. I regret nothing.
