Had an idea while on the Throne.
What is getting repeated here? There are two piles, one goes to your hand and the other your library. Then you're done. I can't tell what "starting with you" or "take turns" refer to.
Isn't this just a really bad Mind Spring?
fixed it to be an instant - improperly labled as sorcery. Would have said that last night - but my internet died right as I switched it.
wtf AT&T
Assuming both players can distinguish and agree on the relative value of the cards involved, here's some examples of what the player who controls this can expect to get back from optimal play:
X=0 or 1 - nothing
X=2 - 2nd best of top 3
X=3 - 3rd best of top 4 (a worse result than 2? how stupid)
X=4 - 2nd and 4th best of top 5
X=5 - 3rd and 5th best of top 6
The parity distinction is an interesting one, but it can't be very good for its prospects as a card.
Should I just change it to use FoF wording on pile choice? (caster's choice)
wording fix?
New evaluation:
2 mana - cantrip
3 mana - Sleight of Hand
4 mana - 1st and 2nd best of top 3
5 mana - 1st and 3rd best of top 4 (still generally worse to have odd X than even X, but not strictly so anymore)
6 mana - 1st, 2nd, and 4th best of top 5
7 mana - 1st, 3rd, and 5th best of top 6
Essentially, all that's changed between the two versions is that now you always get to add your best card to the haul you can take in.
I don't know if you've noticed Steam Augury yet, Joz (Theros is still pretty new after all.) I'm just putting it here for comparison sake. Right now, to get something similar to the Augury, you need to pay between 6 and 7 mana. But, GoI works when you're digging and only have 2 or 3 mana available, and the Augury will never give you the best card (unless there's a duplicate, or your opponent is mistaken.) Seems comparable.
I noticed Steam Augury, yes.
But yea, I think this new wording is better. Its also more fun in EDH - the intended format for this card of big mana.
