Third try at getting a green uncommon entwine spell. This time, the random generator gave me Chandra's Rage. The obvious choice is to hit a flying creature, but I've got plenty of those. This left me with the question "When is okay for Green to deal damage to a player and/or a creature that isn't flying?"

It seems like a simple question now that I got there. Took me a minute, though. Part of the problem is that this used to be a black response to artifacts (like in Relic Bane), but this seems fine in green, too.

Hmmm. I can kinda see it. Green usually rewards players for artifacts while hating the artifacts themselves though; Crumble is pretty iconic.

Hm. That's a good idea, it's certainly fine as uncommon. In fact, "deal N damage to target artifact creature" would be a good R/G hybrid ability (on some spell that does something else so there's a reason it's not just "destroy").

I'm not sure about the player damage: it seems there's almost no modern example of green player damage other than Glissa's Scorn which is deliberately pushing the pie (IMHO worse than Leeching Bite or Hornet Sting, though I think MR disagrees).

I just figure that if we live in a world where Bee Sting is sometimes acceptable, than this card should be okay. Is it ingenuous to argue against cards like Hurricane and Hornet Sting, but argue for this card? Probably. I guess I can be ingenuous sometimes.

This... didn't seem out-of-pie to me at first glance. It's only once I read the thread that I wondered about it.

I think it's probably fine. It's not burning any old player, after all; it's burning a player who meddles in that yukky artifice stuff. I think it's not as bad as Hornet Sting / Bee Sting.
