Is there a reason for the graveyard trip? Why not "
, Return Eternal Martyr to its owner's hand: ..."? It takes a little of flavor for a lot of fewer words and immediate zone changes.
Its there so that things can still interrupt its ability. For example: Against Samurai of the Pale Curtain, the Martyr's ability becomes a once only and It can be removed from graveyard during its "downtime".
I know the functional differences. I'm just saying if it even matters that tiny amount of time, because it's a lot more words. I remember there was a card that exiled cards in the graveyard, but it was a sorcery, for example.
one of the mini-themes in this particular set was using the graveyard as a resource, yes the suggested way would be cleaner but I specifically wanted this to "die and then come back" because it fit the flavour of the mini-theme and indeed the card better.
I just noticed that you can shorten the first ability by saying "At the beginning of your upkeep, you may return CARDNAME from your graveyard to your hand.", courtesy of rule 112.6k.
