Splitting up damage is already plenty of choice - does it need a second option? Red already has far too many choices between far too may similar options. "Choose - tokens or damage; - counters or damage; shatter or damage; damage or damage."
You have all of those choices and at least half of them twice. A side effect of the "choose one"-template maybe?
