That said, you may want to think about doing what cards like Groundswell do instead.

@SadisticMystic: That works. Though, I can foresee a lot of errors and judges being called over in a tournament environment when a player plays a land, then realizes he should have tapped his creature first...

How about just not playing your land until you use the ability to tap what you want? You can do that perfectly well.

On Tidebreak Elemental:

You can't tap something in response to the landfall trigger, unfortunately. How about "return target creature to its owner's hand if it's tapped"?
