Well, that and Gatherer is currently broken. The Spirit of EDH won't technically hit any card printed within the past 6 months, and the 6 months before that isn't an accurate portrayal of card power.
Le sigh. I usually don't advertise my own articles, but this one's important to the future of the game, so I'll link to it here. Honestly, I've been thinking about taking out a Google Ad, so that anyone who makes a Google search for 'Gatherer' is immediately shown that article. But with me on writer's sabbatical for another 3 months, it would seem like an odd choice to send people to my website, then offer them nothing new.
Still might do it. This is getting ridiculous. And if the occasional complaint isn't altering their priorities, then maybe a negative advertisement campaign might.
Gatherer ratings are somewhat distorted by Commander's popularity. A lot of cards have a good rating now primarily because of how good they are in EDH.
I approve of this kind of idea, anyway. I get annoyed when I play against an EDH deck that's nothing but all the staple goodstuff stuffed in with minimal creativity.
This could probably cost less. It's a cost that the spell's controller will almost always be able to pay, unlike Mana Leak, though admittedly when they do pay that cost, the drawback is harsher.

See also Island of Misfit Toys.
good cards are against the spirit of edh though (I'm joking, of course.)
Hmm. Seems sort of counter-intuitive that the "Spirit of EDH" would hose so many EDH all-stars.
neato
Compare to Deprive? Hmm...

Pretty much, I guess. It also has another cost in the form of your nonland permanents not untapping.
So overcharge is like echo but less useful later in the game?
