SFDD Custom Commander Set: Mechanics
See Expedition.
This is just the reminder text for it.
EXAMPLE:
Something something go on a Basic Expedition. Search your library for a Basic Land card. Exile that card. Until the end of its owner's next turn, they may play that card.
renders out to
Something something go on a Basic Expedition. (Search your library for a Basic Land card. Exile that card. Until the end of your next turn, you may play that card.)
This is a land-fixing mechanic that fetches out appropriately typed lands. It's a bit heavy-handedly straightforward, but it'll help with avoiding mana flood. This being a mechanic, it'll show up on enough cards to glue things together.
Exiling the card also means the cards that synergize with playing cards from exile will see this and benefit from it.
Always fetches Lands. Can either specify "Basic Forest", or just "Basic" or "Forest".
Might have the land come in to play tapped? Might only be able to play the land next turn?
This plays with the "Flawed" mechanic, where a creature has a negative role attached to them. This is an Ability Word style mechanic, where there is no one effect that can happen.
Might need to adjust the text on how this is detected.
Tests of these innate roles.
Innately Flawed (This creature enters the battlefield with a Flawed Role token attached to it. Enchanted creature gets -1/-0 and "this creature can't block".)
Innately Perfected (This creature enters the battlefield with a Perfected Role token attached to it. Enchanted creature is an Artifact in addition to its other types and loses all creature types and has "the first artifact spell you cast each turn costs less to cast")
Innately Minion (This creature enters the battlefield with a Minion Role token attached to it. [Minion])
Innately Friendly (This creature enters the battlefield with a Friendly Role token attached to it. Enchanted creature is a Friend in addition to its other creature types and has "as long as this creature has 3 or less power, prevent all combat damage dealt to it while attacking".)
Innately Diplomat (This creature enters the battlefield with a Diplomat Role token attached to it. [Diplomat])
Innately Caravaneer (This creature enters the battlefield with a Caravaneer Role token attached to it. [Caravaneer])
Innately Drone (This creature enters the battlefield with a Drone Role token attached to it. Enchanted creature is a Drone in addition to its other creature types and has "whenever this creature attacks, surveil 1".)
Flawed adds a "Flawed" role to the creature. The Flawed role is a drawback role that makes a creature less effective in combat.
This increases the utility of playing new roles on to the creature, because it'll knock off the Flawed role. Not being able to block makes them less effective at being throw-away blockers until you've given them a faction role.
This mechanic is to help reinforce the factions as different groups, representing someone who hasn't chosen a faction as undecided or somehow unfulfilled.
In card text or details pages, write the mechanic's code name (playtest name) between square brackets, like "[Crittercast]", "[Bushido 1]" or "[Delay 4 {2}{R}{R}]". It will be expanded to the mechanic's name plus reminder text, such as "Suspend 4 – . (Rather than cast this spell from your hand,...)"
To expand a mechanic's name but not its reminder text, include parentheses at the end of the square brackets: "[Crittercast()]", "[Delay 9 {R}()]".
