See Torrented Volcano and Torrented Grove.
Cycling out. I'll have to see what I do with that color-skewed cycle.
See Ancestral Mask. Compare also All that Glitters and Ethereal Armor.
Curses and voyages are enchantments.
Wondered what the Navy mechanical themes really would be a bit, and thought up this gem.
There is already an artifact/enchantment theme in the set with Treasures/Vehicles and voyages/Curses, but Treasures will be Pirate-leaning and Curses are Sealife-leaning.
So white-blue get to play in the artifact space by getting some improved Vehicle synergy (though at least the other Pirate colors might dabble in it).
Finding a better differentiation for the Navy color pairs is a big step towards building the sets mechanical identity.
I considered multiple other little boons e. g. creating a token upon ETB, but the untap seems neatest.
Oh yeah, really nice idea.
I realize this could also be a simple color shift on Doomed Traveler.
Either version would work with the black-red sacrifice theme. The self-mill idea for black-green works better with this.
REPRINT Encrust
I've been considering some removal that works against Vehicles and traditional creatures like Abrade, then remembered this flavor home run.
Not as good as Cunning Survivor.
Nice for looting/rummaging. The only Noggle AFAIR has rummaging, so maybe that's my blue/red archetype, maybe?
FUNCTIONAL REPRINT Omenspeaker.
I wouldn't usually go for a functional reprint here, but I thing scrying might be a theme with expedition/voyage enchantments already being a thing and I came up with these stats.
Flavor text concept: Scrying/dowsing to hunt down/locate pirate nests.
For the other colors I have a pretty clear vision for what their ships would be like, but green is neither Navy nor Pirate, and actually associated with the non-Vehicle lore elements of Merfolk, Sea Monsters and Storms.
I still want a common Vehicle in my first draft to see what it can do.
I like the Satyr Wayfinder-ability here since I play with the thought of graveyard synergy being rewarded, buried Treasure and all...
"If you do" >> "If you discard a card this way"
Nice design!
...
Feels Giant Oppotunity-uncommon, but maybe...
This is what sea-dogs attract with their barking and howling.
I don't know yet how I want to mechanically/flavor-wise define the "Gore Raiders".
A sacrifice theme would be opportune (could tie-in creature sac with artifact sac as seen on Treasures).
Cycl-ish Expeditions/Voyages enchantments.
Inverse Omens.
See Curse of the Hounded, Call of the Whalesong.
One more enemy hybrid common creature.
...
I think about going up to four with cost/damage.
Punny names...
REPRINT Merfolk Looter.
Flavor text to explain why we do have a Rogue rather than a Pirate here.
From a thematic point of view, I want to be able to bring ships to safety as well as crew.
Compare Flicker of Fate.
Now that I do put Treasures into the set, let's keep it fresh with some nontoken Treasures.
Cycle with Drown.
