@Link, shouldn't it need to be weakened though? You can pretty much summon a creature from your graveyard each turn and the only downside is needing to attack with another one. This is going to be part of a set where there is a lot of Ancestry cards and a bunch of ways to have creatures not return to the graveyard. It's being designed to be a standalone experience.
I'm on the fence about the bears vs pandas scenario though. It's currently on our watchlist.
I like Ancestry, though being parasitic like this weakens it. What if it looked for shared creature types rather than other creatures with ancestry? At least creature types are throughout Magic.
I feel that this would probably be a Bear and have the art depiction clarify it as a panda.
If he's a veteran, why do your guys get weaker when he appears? I also think the Ancestry cost is ok but 5 mana for a 3/3 seems lack luster.
