I think it would be more appropriate at 3 life. This seems easy to abuse. maybe when it dies, exile it and target player loses 3 life?

yeah, i saw this coming. 5 life is a lot. Probs gonna chnage p/t too.

The toughness is fine, similarily to Kilnborn Phoenix. JUst too much power, because you cant have bothe the body and the text box... it's just a lot, and it takes away from the ability.

It should be appealing to kill though, but not necessary, you can always just kill it yourself by chumping or sacing

fix

You didn't change the p/t just made it so it can't block. Im fien with that as a balancing act, but this is very bad for your overall design.

This now has one less way to die. I suggest this or something true to this card's nature:

{2}{b} for a 2/1 with "When ~ dies, exile it and target player loses 3 life"

change

Now you just increased it;s toughness. how are these edits helping?

the card's nature is a creature with a lifeloss die ability. Or am I wrong? how do I tell what its nature is outside of what i want it to do.

I have Geralf's messenger in mind. i am tinkering with designs, and trying to find what is a fine balance.

That is a very different ability from what was happening with this card. Very very different.

If you've read my comments, i've suggested making it a less-efficient creature with low toughness that does just that, dies to cause life loss. Also would be beneficial to put in an exiling upon dies for balance

i guess, that just feels really underpowered, and I want the card to stand out. I was originally going to make a {w}{b} card but skeletons aren't in {w}. thinking of a way to make the card a powerhouse. Something aggro decks can play, and maybe a bit more. I dont like the exile thing all that much, and a 3 mana 3/1 is never that good. Maybe i could have it sacrifice, but I rather not. I want the card to feel like a dark card, and play like one too.

Well if you want a combat oriented upon death card, it might be better suited in red. Because black normally likes to sacrifice or have other ways to kill rather than just fighting.

Why is this a rare? Outside of being quite efficient (suggesting uncommon rarity and/or perhaps {g} in the mana cost) the card is so simple that it could be a common.

As a 3/1, 3/2 it's probably more of a common than Reaper Kami - and that card is a powerhouse if current playtests are any indication.

So all this tries to do is upscale Pitchburn Devils, but actually not being usable as removal is quite a catch. Ooh, or one-sided Soulcage Fiend.

@wurms: This could be {w}{b} even if Skeletons aren't in white since it's the hero (in this case represented as Warrior) half that provides the white. Not that I would suggest doing so, but then this should drain on death.

I agree with Froggychum that it would be intuitive to lower the toughness on a creature that wants to die.

There are about one-million ways to take this. Right now I'm not even certain this favors aggressive decks too much. Just a 3/3 for 3 is actually often a relevant blocker.

Maybe this wants to have "~ can't block"? The above metioned Geralf's Messenger also has a blocking restriction in ETBT. That would open the gate for more aggressive death trigger cost, maybe making this a 3/2 for {b}{b}.

Mostly I think, where the card is going is really dependent on the environment and it's far too early to fine-tune this e. g. the question on whether to move this into {w}{b} or keep it mono-black depends strongly on where the aggressive deck lies.

I think the big thing this is missing about Geralf's Messenger though is that undying meant both card advantage and that the creature actually had a higher power than cmc even if that was not printed.

This is {r}{b} brutalize right? So if this is a Whendies effect, it should probs be triggered by combat I'd assume? Or hitting a player.

Honestly how it is you could make it a 3/2 or 3/1 and make it common.

There are a lot of ways to take it, but I think whatever fits best on the macro and micro is ideal

perhaps, i could make it {w}{b} for a 2/1 or 3/1 which dies to drain for 3?
