Random card generator gave me Gossamer Chains and Goblin Mountaineer. I admit it. It's kinda boring. I've seen this method produce a lot of interesting cards, but every now and then, a combination like this pops up and the most exciting thing to think about is rarity and casting cost. I suppose if you didn't know the Chains, this card would be cool. I suppose the set needs a little infusion of boring every now and then to not get too crazy.
Gossamer Chains was at least a somewhat fun casual staple back in its day. This is an early-ish creature that's still useful late game, so even if you say it's boring, it's reasonably useful in the set. Plus the complexity will be completely out of control if you don't have a reasonable helping of commons at least as simple as this, if not simpler.
I agree. I complain, mostly, because combinations like this don't challenge me. It's rare that it happens, so I just got to shrug. I looked for a way to combine it in a surprising way... some sort of landwalk commando trick... but it just wasn't happening, and this is a fine card. Name stinks, though. I keep wanting to reference that the Kor use chains to climb mountains. That's the reason why I chose a Kor... could get the name to do anything, but what's obvious.
Moved from Workbench to Alpha because I can use a common creature costing . I also added the Gossamer chains cost as activation cost, and bumped up toughness to 2, to make this more relevant on the battlefield, and a little less likely to keep bebopping back to the hand.
