I like it. It has a nice, simple effect that's reinforced by the flavor.

I also like the flavor, but I'm not sure it's coming across very well. Seems like a mash up of 2 very good effects: Veteran Armorer and Ajani's Sunstriker. How does having a great dog give everyone else +0/+1 (ok, maybe it could, but the Armorer does a much better job)? And having lifelink means you'll be using it like just a great beatstick rather than a cute dog.

Maybe something like Gate Hound or a triggered lifegain like "gain 1 life whenever another creature you control attacks". Like, before they head off to fight, each soldier stops and pets the mascot.
