I think a creature with built-in double strike isn't suited for common. If it were just the trick then that'd be okay, although putting a +1/+1 counter on it as well might make even that pushing the limits of common a bit.

...Ah, except IIRC you're designing for expert players, without NWO, right? In which case ignore what I said and this is great as it is. :)

There have been 2 common double strikers. Also the cost should be prohibitive enough. Okay to red flag or remove own double strike.

They've finally returned to putting some Double Strike at common, though mostly on non creature cards. This is a very powerful combat trick, but at least it does not block itself. I wouldn't call it straight up too powerful, but I would keep close tabs on it.
