Like you said, Anurid Barkripper isn't a modern card, and even if it's not terrible, there can still be things better than it.
I also it feel it's important to note that Grave Hulk has to exile creature cards to flip and competes for slots with your other delve spells.

Compare to Anurid Barkripper. Granted, it's a common and not a modern card. Still got star rating of 2.87, however, so it can't be terrible.
Like you said, Anurid Barkripper isn't a modern card, and even if it's not terrible, there can still be things better than it. I also it feel it's important to note that Grave Hulk has to exile creature cards to flip and competes for slots with your other delve spells.
