Originally, this card was a hole-filler for a card that proved to be incapable of changing casting costs and too powerful at common. Being the only common mill card in the set, it was immediately adopted by milling affeciandos and others who just thought it was cool. Originally, this card milled 5... my reasoning was that it wasn't any better at Tome Scouring at common, and cost {2} more, with a tougher to activate trigger, so it should be fine. Then we had our first draft with it and learned something. People who pack 6 Tome Scours in a limited deck are stretching their deck to knock opponents out. People who play 6 Sky Pirates aren't doing much stretching. It's only a little worse than Wind Drake in the stats department. I had to cut back to 4 to calm this card down.

Oh, also, this card inspired the rest of the cycle of "goes to graveyard from anywhere" in 20XD6. We've been told for over a decade that dumping cards like Rukh Egg into the graveyard from our hand was too good an ability, so it's nice to see a group of cards say "Actually, no. It was just the Rukh Egg."

This seems scary in Legacy Dredge. If you hit one, that lets you hit yourself for 4 more, perhaps a Narcomoeba and another one of this, which lets you hit yourself for 4 more...

I did realize that I gave Dredge a rather potent tool. It doesn't help that this, itself, is a creature and will activate Bridge From Below and Ichorid (Edit: Complete lies. I obviously don't play that deck and just assume the cards are better than they are. Oh well. It still returns Nether Shadow if you find yourself running that...). But I can't be expected to worry about Super-Legacy combos. Besides, Development would probably push this card. They seem to like Dredge, and ban cards to make it come to the forefront.
