The "your side" wording was supposed to make "you or a planeswalker you control" more future proof towards new attack options.
But it just sounds like a synonym for "your team" i. e. "you or one of your teammates". :/
Another possibility might be to rewrite the ability as:
> At the beginning of the declare attackers step, exile target attacking creature that you are the defending player of.
(The ability will not be played during your turn since there are no valid targets in that case.)
