Random Generator gave me Hurloon Minotaur (again, but no complaints about that one) and Dazzling Beauty. That's a nice trick... and once again, this card could easily see print in the community set. We need cards that stop unblocked creatures there...

But really, this card just makes me long for days of playing Keepers of the Faith and drinking Grape Slice while watching Highlander

I like it, it's very white.

I'm not sure, is it the case you can only play this after blockers are declared? Because that might be confusing if you want to play this and use it to block another creature as well. I can't remember if creatures can be blocked (or count as unblocked) before blockers are decalred or not.

I looked it up. Unfortunately, this is what I found:

An attacking unblocked creature exists from the time the defending player chooses not to block that creature until the combat phase ends. Curtain of Light doesn't have any legal targets outside of the combat phase.

I'm not sure why this is the ruling (beside for grammatical reasons). It only cuts into the functionality of 3 cards... and even then, you have to find a way to cast/activate them when they aren't supposed to go off... but it hampers future design.

I could change this to "target attacking creature becomes blocked", though. I don't see how that would be a problem...

I assume it's for things like Higure, the Still Wind; that wants a notion of "a creature which hasn't been blocked and hasn't dealt damage yet". I agree letting creatures become blocked earlier might work (I think it's fine to assume such small rules tweaks when designing cards), but I'm not sure. I'm sure this can be fixed somehow but not sure how.

It may really just be a grammatical hang-up. They've only printed 3 cards with that line of text. When they printed Curtain of Light, they may have just copy-pasted the text from Trap Runner and Dazzling Beauty and called it a day. Those three cards talk about unblocked creatures, and a creature can't be unblocked until a player chooses to not block it.

But if the card read "attacking creature" as opposed to "unblocked creature", its quite possible that all that would be needed to make it work is a sentence in the comprehensive rulebook to acknowledge that it works, and maybe a bit of reminder text on the card...

Yeah, I agree with "target attacking creature becomes blocked". (I originally just wasn't sure which meaning you intended.) That's certainly clear, and I expect the rules could be tweaked to cover it; certainly good enough for design, and development or templating can worry about edge cases later.

Edited, so now our conversation doesn't make sense. :)
