This is rather too good. This can come down on turn 1, with an irrelevant drawback (the first 19 life points don't matter), and kill an opponent in 5 turns without them having any chance to block? Also it's uncounterable so even bouncing it just costs the caster 3 more life.
Legendary is good, but it still needs to be toned down. And slowing it down (e.g. "when ~ ETBs, sacrifice a swamp") wouldn't help very much. Either make it a 1/1 or lose shadow, I think.
This is cool, a good 4 color design. However, I would give it haste instead of flying - flying on the non-blue 4 color creature seems strange, and it makes it a bit redder. Also, proposed new wording for the activated ability:
"4: The next time you would draw a card this turn, return ~ to the battlefield instead. Activate this ability only if ~ is in your graveyard."
Mmm, nah, it's probably ok at 2. (Given the ridiculous Porcelain Legionnaire exists)
It does cost a tempo, making your 3 drop into a 2 drop; but getting this AND a normal 2-drop on... Oh wait, you don't. It drops your 2 into a 1 as well doesn't it, it's summoning sick.
Ok, objections entirely withdrawn. Still a good card.
I'll be trimming the wording to just Sacrifice a mountain on ETB. Also should make it cost 3 mana to gain first strike?
It's pretty comparable to Rogue Elephant / Scythe Tiger, actually.
And Rogue Elephant certainly was a scary aggro card, back in the day; but Scythe Tiger was pretty useless. I'd be interested to see if this enabled any aggro decks - it might, it might not.
Can be simplified to just "Sacrifice a mountain" since it itself is a mountain and a viable thing to sacrifie.
Scary aggro card, though.
Good call I'll change the costs
No reference intended. And I think that your wording works better.
But scry 3 first pretty much guarantees that you'll be drawing a good card. All the variations on JMDTome have avoided being strictly better than it, one way or another; this just blows it out of the water.
Not much too strong, mind you.
is a pretty high cost already, and there's been a few variations from the tome.
Strong! Perhaps a bit too much better than Jayemdae Tome and Crystal Ball?
Is the name a deliberate reference to Eron the Relentless?
I like the idea of creatures transforming into planeswalkers, anyway. I think rather than having a loyalty shield you'd need to say "you may transform ~ and put 8 loyalty counters on him".
