Yes in current pie this is a no-no. It is also a work in progress. I'm thinking of making a cycle of enchantments that allow each color to counter it's two enemy colors in some way. I just figured that Deathgrip would be the best place to start. Also it's a slightly better and slightly worse version of Deathgrip
Huh. It's Deathgrip. Which is way out of the modern colour pie, and so is this.
I'm not sure what environment this would go in yet. But as a 0/3 I'm guessing that it should be
to be safe.
It can probably go down to
or
, but that would depend entirely on the environment
My intention was that you have to either pump it or give it a way to
deal 1 damage to something. I think I will up the toughness though.
Attacks unblocked, or deals damage? Because at the moment you have to pump its power for it to do anything; if that's deliberate I'd like to see it at least 0/3.
Interesting comparison with Frontier Guide. This looks better (
upfront and
activation rather than the other way around), but Frontier Guide was in a set with landfall so it might have had to have been upcosted.
I had not aimed at the 6-7-8 aesthetic but just going with what felt right. I'll go with your wording since I want to keep the CMC at 6. The goal was to give a little warning that big creatures are coming (mush like you'd hear them coming well before they were visible in the woods.)
You're going for 6-7-8 aesthetically, right? Between the number being out of order on the card and not immediately seeing the number 6 in the mana cost (I started this comment before even noticing the CMC), it was hard to tell. I think 7-7-7 would be clearer and probably fine power-wise, but if you like this I'd change the wording to "At the beginning if your upkeep, put a 7/7 green Elemental creature token onto the battlefield if you control eight or more Forests." It's almost functionally the same, except I guess you could cheat in the eighth Forest in response to the trigger. You couldn't with your wording.
