A world based off of the themes and tropes in classic Disney movies. Just a single booster pack's worth of cards for now as a proof-of-concept.

Skeleton

This is something I like to do for myself, which is to design a sample booster of a set to see how reception is and determine whether or not there is enough design space to pursue a full set of this. Please let me know any opinions you have on the set themes, set mechanics, or set design. Here are the mechanics for this set:

Wish: The main mechanic for the set. Found in {w}{u}{g}{r}. It reads "To wish, name a card type, then reveal the top card of your library. If you revealed a card of the named type, put it into your hand and your wish is granted." This is usually accompanied by effects that trigger if a wish is granted. In a properly constructed deck, there will be numerous ways for you to know what the top card of your library is - Whistling Dwarf, Colors of the Wind, and Animated Candlestick are some examples of cards that will help guarantee your wish.

Transform: Transform returns in this set, since a lot of fairytales (and thus, Disney movies) have some sort of "transformation" - Maleficent's dragon form, Mulan's disguise, Aladdin's prince outfit, etc. Transform is closely tied to Wish, but there would be a number of cards (read: villainous cards) that don't involve wishing that can transform.

Ensemble: One of the other mechanics for this set. Found in {w}{g}{r}{b}. Since musicals are a big component of Disney films, this mechanic is to encourage you to play cards of the same converted mana cost (Ensemble always triggers based on the converted mana cost of the card that it's on - see Yowling Mutts). All ensemble cards will be in the range of 2-5 CMC. Since this would be a small set (bigger than Coldsnap, but not by much), Ensemble will usually involve drafting cards of similar converted mana costs. Since there's a lot of library manipulation due to Wish in this hypothetical set, Ensemble will encourage you constructing your deck in a certain way to consistently get these triggers.

Treasure: A minor theme in this set, since there are pirates and mermaids and all sorts of villains that want some sort of treasure. These will generally help cast ramp spells or cast multiple cards to trigger Ensemble in one turn. It's found in {u}{b}{r}.

Spite: A villain-exclusive mechanic. Designed to be anti-Wish, it's very very similar to Fateseal. As such, it will only be one card at a time, and in limited amounts. It's pretty unfun, but I wanted a villainous mechanic that didn't involve overt destruction or maliciousness. Sending a card you don't like to the graveyard seems just the right amount of spiteful for the feel of the set. It's found in {b}{u}. with a splash of {w} for punishment-esque effects.

Instant
Destroy target creature with power 3 or less. Spite its controller. (Look at the top card of that player's library. You may put it in their graveyard.)

Creature – Frog
{t}, Tap an untapped creature you control: Wish. If your wish is granted, transform Ugly Bullfrog. (To wish, name a card type, then reveal the top card of your library. If it's the named type, draw it and your wish is granted.)
With courage, love, and a little magic...

Charming Prince

Colour indicator W Creature – Human Noble
When this creature transforms into Charming Prince, put a +1/+1 counter on each tapped creature you control.
...even the ugliest of creatures can become a prince.

Creature – Hound
Ensemble – Whenever you cast a spell with converted mana cost 2, you may discard a card. If you do, draw a card.
Each night, stray dogs and cats gather on the footsteps of Splendor Castle and begin "serenading" for the residents inside.

Sorcery
Search your library for up to two basic land cards, reveal them, then shuffle your library. Put one into your hand and the rest on top of your library.

Land
{t}: Add {c} to your mana pool.
{4}, {t}: Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. Put that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

On Poisoned Apple:

Spite is only an improvement on the oppressiveness of fateseal if there is a graveyard theme to go with it.

The name and concept fits nicely into the world's concept.

On Ugly Bullfrog:

Any chance the back face would be better as a 3/4 that put the counters on only other creatures? That way the printed p/t is more representative of what you'll get.

Also does this slyly reference two stories?

On Yowling Mutts:

I wish my booster pack contained another card with ensemble so I'd know what it does...

I wonder whether such a linear curve-breaking mechanic can sustain itself. Cascade worked because it wanted the opposite (worked in the sense of being an inspiring mechanic - I think the execution did not quite work out because it was hard to develop).

On Disney World:

I like the flavor, but it seems a bit tricky to make into an actual mechanic since the conditions for the wish would all be different. "When creature gains X keyword" or "When you reach X threshold in hand/graveyard/library" or "When a creature is destroyed/exiled/returned to hand/etc" are all fine thresholds, but there won't really be a way to build around any of them unless multiple cards share the same/similar wish conditions.

On Disney World:
On Colors of the Wind:

Quick note that if you don't need the extra land, you're not forced to get it - you can choose to find only one land and put it into your hand, making this a Lay of the Land.

On Colors of the Wind:

I like the trade-off, set up for wish, but you have to have a wish ready to go. Or it's not a trade-off if you're hurting for land and need land draws, or you're about to self-mill.

On Disney World:

That's a great mechanic as well. Definitely will keep that in mind if I ever come back to it, but the downside with that mechanic is that there's no way to build around the mechanic other than including 1-3 good cards with Wish in your deck and just drafting around everything else - it doesn't really add any archetypes to drafting. It's just kicker for spells. I might do something like

>...make a wish. If you do, [EFFECT] (Get a wish counter. If you have more than three wish counters, you lose the game.)

That way you could play around wish getting more wishes by removing counters from yourself in {b} and {u} maybe. Or you could Rules Lawyer yourself to avoid the game loss state-based effect in Un-constructed...

I'd also avoid sorcery/instant spells with wish and put them on tap abilities or ETB effects, so you don't run into the issue of making strictly-better spells without a tradeoff.

On Disney World:

The premise for the set is certainly there.

The 'wish' mechanic doesn't inspire me. Without the hacks to know what the top card of your library is, I think the guess most of the time will be 'land'.

How do you feel about using this:

http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/custom-card-creation/775654-wish-mechanic

There's a custom set or two running with this mechanic. I know it's djinn flavored, but I would think that as a plus rather than a negative. Also, Aladdin?
I mean, using that name for your kind of a mechanic would a huge loss IMO when this could exist instead.
