Dictionary

Fane refers to a sacred place, a temple or shrine.

The term is where the antithetical adjective 'profane' ('before' as in 'outside' the fane) originates.

A more commonly used word that originates from the same latin root is 'fan'/'fanatic' who is someone 'inspired' by something 'sacred'.

In Diablo 2 Act 3 you can encoutner both the Disused Fane and the Ruined Fane location.

The obvious design idea was to make a colorless Temple (see Temple of Triumph), but Zhalfirin Void got there first. Well, a non-Dominaria specific name is cool, too, but instead I put this into a separate pile for my Great Subtype Update project.

To make this useful the above mentioned cycle (Temple of Abandon and co.) are going to receive the appropriate subtype as functional errata.
