"Djeru is a leader (giving the orders in his crop), but trained to ruthless ambition. Second-fastest of his crop. Not much of a perceiver. Believes in the afterlive promised by Bolas. I had no idea for an ultimate, but Barren Glory fits the flavor of being the last of his crop."
In retrospect, I think the second ability should say "planeswalker other than ~".
Maybe getting away with a cheap ultimate is the way to go here.
I point out that just that first ability can happily fill the card. Way too many words, even for a planeswalker.
Um; is it intended "Cast, use ability 1, your turn? Holy day, my turn? use ultimate, sacrifice that token, win" to be as easy as it looks?
> Way too many words, even for a planeswalker.
Text length isn't that bad, especially if you refer to the card as just 'Djeru' in the ultimate... or it kinda is IMO, but not from WotC's point of view. If you check out how small the text size gets in the official planeswalkers you will note that in many of them it reaches a size of similar level as in a mock up of Djeru. For example, this is true for all three
Ajani cards we have: Ajani Unyielding, Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, and Ajani, Valiant Protector.
This however can alleviated by using a custom card template such as that of "Mainframe Planeswalker" where you can adjust the space reserved for each loyalty ability. It's not official though, so you could argue WotC might have decided against such, but I think it's more likely they haven't bothered to think too much about this / implement it. I spent way too much fiddling with this, but here are comparable mockups:
> "Cast, use ability 1, your turn? Holy day, my turn? use ultimate, sacrifice that token, win"
How are you getting rid of all of your lands (and your hand though I could buy that part)?
I personally don't have any gripes with this card. At some point I was thinking whether the second ability would work less awkwardly if it were a punisher effect instead, but it changes the dynamic a lot + it makes it slightly less white IMO so idk. I think I would probably go with the "planeswalker other than ~" phrase that was mulled over.
