2013-03-05 06:56:48: Circeus created the card Hobbyhorse

Workhorse in Return to Ravnica.

It has to be toned down a little b/c of Scavenge, amongst other things.

I don't think you have to worry about the power level of Birds of Paradise's activated ability at 5cc. If someone wants to be goofy and scavenge some counters for their hobby horse, it seems like the correct response would be to be happy that person is enjoying the synergic applications of the card.

The card is a bit weak, though it's a reasonable common. Removing +1/+1 counters from creatures for an effect is something designers like, but players don't... but as long as your not trying to use a card like this to sell a set, then I think it's a fair choice.

Mmm, it's a 3/3 for 5; which isn't bad or it's a Pentad Prism; that costs a chunk more but can be used as a chump when you don't need it any more. Where the workhorse is only colourless. I don't see a problem with this. I reckon it just about hits the sweetspot of cost.

@Jmgariepy (fellow Quebecer, by chance?), it's not the Birdie's power level I was truly concerned about, but rather the fact the original doesn't tap. I tried to offset it by making it a 1/1 rather than a 0/0.

Ah... so you were increasing its power. Fair enough.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) I'm one of the few Gariepys that aren't living in Quebec... though that's where my grandparents were born, yes. I hail from a part of Southern New Hampshire that (40 years ago) used to think Lafayette was the greatest man who ever lived, and went to a Catholic school full of French Nuns. Le résultat? Mon français est terrible, mais il est assez bon pour moi d'être à l'aise avec Google Translate. ;)
