What a cool idea for a mechanic!

I just did the math. If you get this in your opening hand, you can exile it immediately. If you commit all of your mana to manufactoring it, you'll get it by turn 4 with three mana left to summon a 3/3. Very nice.

Would be helpful to use counters to track the mana expenditure

Thanks, everyone :D I did consider using counters, but I couldn’t think of an elegant wording. I figure players will probably end up using counters on their own, anyways.

Excellent mechanic. Incredibly difficult to cost. Highly suggest playtesting. I get the impression that this is better than, say, convoke. And convoke costs tend to run rather expensive.

I'm not saying your card is too cheap. I honestly have no idea what the correct cost is.

Yeah, I went with my gut, and then ran through a couple iterations of mental playtesting, but it’ll certainly take a lot more work to figure out the best numbers for this sort of thing.
