I think the "each creature" version is more interesting.
Wish it could activate before blockers but this is already pushing it a lot for 0-cost.
Was "when this attacks and isn't blocked, deals damage equal to the number of..."

"Design a 0-cost creature. Must cast for 0 mana, no extra mana, no abilities that cost mana, but can have other hoops."
I tried a few variants but the ideas I liked most were "ornithopter but for a different keyword" and "kobold lord" and kobold lord was the one I thought of.
I tried to make it genuinely useful in a deck filled with 0-cost creatures, but not so strong it was affinity all over again.
I note the "base power and toughness" language makes this kind of thing a lot easier, without having arguments about "creautres you control with power less than 4 get +2/+2" type abilities.
Oh, I forgot. It probably is too narrow as is, but a rider like "flashback " would make sense, having the scare happen once, then have it hanging over you.

This week's challenge is to design an instant or sorcery card that represents being scared or frightened somehow.
This is probably too narrow, and not really in pie, and would need the combat rules to be streamlined again to make removing a blocker intuitive[1], but it was the one that had the best "scary" flavour.
[1] I'm not sure if it works, but now that the assign-damage-order rules have been there for a while, it feels like you could remove the special meaning of "blocked", and just say "a creature is blocked if it is blocked by any creatures" and "when damage is finally assigned, the defending player or planeswalker is always last in the order, but is only assigned damage if there are no blocking creatures or the attacking creature has trample". It feels like the benefits would be similar to removing "combat damage on the stack" -- you can remove a blocking creature and have the effect you intuitively expect, but you can't block and then sac, you have to choose.

(Or maybe choose one knight creature like soulbond, but the non-reminder text for soulbond is too long to borrow.)

(The art is cropped a little badly, see the link for the whole picture and some comments on this card.)
Sweeet. Very much my kind of card.
Thank you!
I love it!

Unfortunately a bit longer than I'd hoped. Any suggestions for concision?
Does riddle game happen on resolution? I would hate for a player to reveal a card before this gets countered. I like it though.
Or maybe I should have made a "reanimate a card in your graveyard unless your opponent can guess which" spell. Although there's a big gap between "reanimate some card" and "reanimate a specific card you built a deck around".
I like it. This templating does work, because every possible destination is a public zone; so the card will be revealed eventually.
Search-onto-battlefield is very strong, but restricting it to match a creature you have is much weaker: Mask of the Mimic, Pack Hunt.
Unlike those two, this doesn't target - it obviously can't. So if your opponent kills/bounces all your creatures in response, tough luck. And if they get you down to 1 card, that'll mean they can guarantee your searched card goes into the graveyard.
Does it matter if the creature is one that's better in the graveyard than the battlefield? Probably not.
Would it be better like this?
> Search your library for a creature card and exile it face down. An opponent guesses that card's name. If it shares a name with a creature you control but the opponent guessed wrong, put it onto the battlefield. Otherwise put it into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.
The difference being you can choose to use this as a one-card Buried Alive if you find a creature that doesn't share a name with something you control.
Oh but you still have to control a creature with that name, so it's not so bad.
Should be "Otherwise, put it into your graveyard." Which, by the way, is quite powerful.
It is always spelled out - but I think it gets done. But yes, you're right; getting the cast for free too is pretty strong.
Thank you!
I think revealing what you searched for doesn't happen automatically, rather, it's always spelled out on the card (eg. here the card always goes OTB or into the graveyard). But I'm not 100% sure.
And you can get search, but "OTB" is more powerful than "into your hand".
Probably needs stupid templating; because I think the way round you've got it now it gets revealed (to prove it's a creature) before the opponent has to guess the name :)
But I like it. Annoyingly hard to use some of the time; but sometimes sneaky. But... you can get "Search for any creature" as cheap as , so maybe this could be even cheaper?
