added lifelink, changed life loss to damage. this drains, now. +2 tough and +1 cost
As you can see, I've changed Ritual to Fervor. It resonates better with what the mechanic does, and fits the lore of the faction equally appropriately.
wording and changed land/creature to permanent cause it was way too long and it still's a bit long, but not awfully so.
wording and +1 toughness
Compare to Venerated Loxodon
Not super good, but decently strong in Limited.
CMN --> UNC
This is probably okay compared to Overgrowth
Actually, going to make this uncommon and have it trigger on tap/untap to combo with lots more stuff :)
This costs
more since it triggers on attacking or spiting a player whom Contaminates it with Darkness
see Wild Growth
Still, this will never trick an opponent if you're keeping your tempo (meaning you use all your mana but the 1 mountain you need for this). You are certainly going to keep your tempo over 'deceit' with the Kragstorm mechanic. Though, if you're not being aggro'd against, it could be smarter to play slow early on to get enough resources in hand, since Hellstorm virtually doubles your card output without giving you any card advantage alone.
This does break one of the new set rules, except I think it's acceptable considering how punishing enchantments/artifacts would be in this set without anyway to deal with them for less than 4 mana, considering cards like Sedate and Hypnotize exist in this set. Yeah, this is allowed.
Also, compare to Naturalize
Love this card, but just so you know, it breaks the new rule you can find on the front page cardset comment.
the reason for this rule is because, 1-drop disruption is just too strong for this metagame, in my opinion.
Also, since every other instant card costs
cmc or
+ cmc, if you have an untapped mountain, your opponent will always know that you are holding Helbolt barring the turn-1 mindgame of not having a one drop and then they play Aspiring Homarid into your bolt trap.
Actually, if you play second, then perhaps when you pass to them, they could actually play out a land and have the mana to play Engine Meddler or Coastal Spy, in which case you can Hellstorm this to kill their dude.
Quick rules question: Does this kill Coastal Spy before it's ETB triggers? I'd assumed so, but maybe you can't because it's on the stack before the field... dunno... maybe the active player gets to choose? But do you become active if you get priority from casting Helbolt? Ughhh so confusing.
Edit: Did my research and even if you bolt the Coastal Spy, it's ability still goes on the stack and triggers after your bolt, even if you kill the spy first.
