As a side note: I really want to have some game component to represent time-delayed mana for my RPG mechanics and tend towards changing the loot ability to have an effect of "that creature's controller creates a Treasure token".

One of my favorite variants of the elite supertype for the moment.
The original plan was to have a supertype that would work on any permanent type - possibly every cardtype, but this is very straightforward.
To make it less of a drawback mechanic, I also consider:

Hmm, I don't have much to say about this one at the moment, but it makes me think of another, similar kind of an concept.
> Pay 1 life: ~ gets +1/+1 UEOT. Activate this ability only once each turn.
It would like a mix of Carnophage / Putrid Leech, which I find quite pleasing.
